In Finnish language "kansa" (people) and "kansakunta" (nation) , "kansallisuus" (nationality) and "kansalaisuus" (citizenship) sounds similar to us with different meenings .
People is the basic idea. The group of human beings having the same place to live or the same language to speak. Our language has isolated us so we protect ourselves with it. Finno-ugric people has been the only ones who we think really understand us. And who has the same wisdom of Shamans as we do.
But Cavalli-Sforza genetic studies about Finnish origins has shown that similar genetic mix has Belgian Flemings. The study did not include in its immediate neighborhood : the Karelians and Estonians, who would have been perhaps located in the tip. The closest the Finno-Ugric people surveyed were the Hungarians, who the English were distributed with 10. place. The Sami were 21. in almost all other investigated populations behind.
Now we really have to rethink about our consept of nation based on our very different origin.
The idea of 'pure people' is indeed a not apropriate idea for Flemish people; glad tio hear that the Finnish are from the same cosmic goblin type ... This does not mean that there can be a strong "we"-feeling based on common language, common history and resistence towards a common agressor.

The first book I read about nationalism was Benedict Anderson's book Imagined Communities: Reflections on the Origin and Spread of Nationalism
This book was translated to finnish 2007 even if it is writen 1983 - so you get some idea how long it takes that the ideas comes to Finland.
Our language keeps us a bit outsider of what is happening in the other parts of the world, but we are not stupid - We need to rethink everything what is said - to translate things in to our own laguage. It is something also inviduals has to do in any language. We can only imagine that we have common opinnion about the things.( Imagination is very good to have anyways - it makes communication posible.)
